Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you want to light a scene but can’t use a light stand? There are certainly situations where using a stand will either get in the way of the shot, or the space simply can’t accommodate a stand. In times like these, I turn to the Kupo Off Camera Flash Alli Clamp to get the light where I need it.
This incredibly useful clamp will allow you to quickly and securely mount an off camera flash to anything that is 1.5” in diameter or less. The rubber tips of the Kupo clamp ensure that the device won’t damage whatever you are clamping to while the powerful tension of the clamp will keep the flash securely in place. Complete with a rotating ball head, this clamp will get your speedlight aimed wherever you need it.
What have we clamped to in the past? Rails, street signs, car racks, water pipes, tree branches, lighting fixtures and even the side of a vintage 1946 Fairchild airplane. These clamps are also a great way to clamp multiple flashes to a light stand during a reception to minimize the number of light stands you and your second photographers use.
In the photographs below, taken at the Ronald Regan building in Washington DC, I was faced with the challenge of lighting a gigantic space without light stands. Since the space is a two level atrium, light stands would have been in the way of the guests and would certainly have showed up in th shot. To get around it, we clamped six of the Canon 600EX-RT speedlights on the upper rails, aimed down towards the center of the lower level. It was fast and easy to set up and most importantly, it got the job done!
For under $50.00, you can not find a lighting accessory that is as handy or as versatile as the Kupo Off Camera Flash Alli Clamp!
